My bodies of work all address different types of still life: from arrangements of various fruits on mountain tops, to table top arrangements of various dishware and silverware with scraps of wood, to arrangements of strewn clothes, spray paint and blue tape. All of my chosen subject matter is depicted life-size and rendered with precise detail in darkened, monochromatic fields of color. The realism of the scene that the I construct becomes diffused and mysterious in the dim lighting, and slows down the recognition of the objects. I draw on the long history of still life painting and, through this darkened lens, challenge the viewer to take another look.
