You are a uniformed teenage girl riding the train
to school and think it’s cute (kawaii) to flash your undies
at the long-haired white man seated across from you

You are a mom, but you were once employed,
perhaps a medical doctor or scientist,
your education now a relic of perfunctory aspirations

You are a social worker, lacking numbers on the incidence
of domestic violence yet well-versed in statistics
from World Economic Forum screaming: Gender lag!

You are a skirt-wearing politician that somehow attracted
enough votes but remain ill-suited to change mandatory
high heels, or other sexist aspects of the status quo

You are a school teacher and every day
you are either brushed by your male superiors or butt-
poked by the clasped hands of your pupils

You are a female bartender observing mating rituals,
hearing every woman say “impossible” (muri),
only to end up, as predicted, going home with them

You are a part-time worker in a pink/red town
scrubbing backs of silver-helmet salarymen
equipped with hyper sex drives and prawns for penises

You are a female gaijin (foreigner) on a robotic exam
table at the gynecologist’s, where a curtain at your waist
separates you and your doctor and your translator
