SKYLAR MIKLUS
I dream of you most often in autumn:
we’re strolling in New York or in
Austin, a city I’ve never visited, so I don’t
know whether falling leaves belong in the dream,
but there they are. Your hair’s
longer but still smells of patchouli
and something else I can’t identify, like
a ghost of your favorite salon here, which shut down.
We’re stopping at each red light, even
when the way forward’s clear, just so
you can pull me to you. We kiss two,
three, four times. You never liked displaying
your desires, mumbled how all your life
you’ve been a fetish, how “bisexual”
is more porn category than signifier. But here
in my head you’re proud I’m your
lover, you need the press of me like breathing.
